Dr. Seif Abdallah Shekalaghe

Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Gender- Tanzania

Currently, he is a Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Community Development, Gender, Women and Special Groups.

He has worked as a District Commissioner at Maswa in Simiyu region, Regional Administrative Secretary Songwe and Kilimanjaro regions at different times; and Deputy Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Health before being promoted as a Permanent Secretary at the same Ministry.

He obtained a degree of Doctor of Medicine (MD) at Tumaini University, Kilimanjaro Christian Medical College (KCMC) in Tanzania. Thereafter, he obtained an MPH at the University of Nottingham in the United Kingdom. He holds a PhD on malaria transmission awarded by Radboud University, Nijmegen, Netherlands.

He has extensively worked in the area of malaria transmission by conducting epidemiological and intervention studies (including mass drug administration (MDA) using different antimalarial drugs), that aimed at identifying strategies to interrupt malaria transmission and has published over 10 papers on these topics. Academically, he has experience in teaching both undergraduate and postgraduate courses. He was a lecturer at Tumaini University KCMC College teaching epidemiology, research methodology and community health subjects. He has experience with course coordination and has developed a new curriculum for a master's course in epidemiology and applied biostatistics with other colleagues at KCMC.
